CIP Name: Autobody/Collision and Repair Technology/Technician
Definition: A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, reconstruct and finish automobile bodies, fenders, and external features. Includes instruction in structure analysis, damage repair, non-structural analysis, mechanical and electrical components, plastics and adhesives, painting and refinishing techniques, and damage analysis and estimating.

Approval Status

The Automotive Collision & Repair Alignment was originally approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on December 16, 2009. After going through the realignment process, the Technical Education Authority approved the amended Automotive Collision and Refinishing Technology alignment on September 24, 2020. Colleges are granted one year from the approval date to implement the alignment.

State Business and Industry Committee recommendation

The state Business and Industry committee endorsed the OSHA 10 and the SP2 Pollution Prevention and Collision Safety credentials upon completion of a Certificate A. They endorsed the ASE and/or I-CAR credentials upon completion of a Certificate B, Certificate C and/or AAS degree.
