General information about State of Kansas scholarships and grant programs
CRITERIA
Each scholarship has its own unique eligibility criteria and may be intended for a specific path of study. In general, most State of Kansas scholarships share the following eligibility criteria:
- Recipients must be a resident of Kansas, living and working in the state for at least one year prior to enrolling in college.
- Kansas residency is NOT required for the Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship and the National Guard Educational Assistance Program
- Recipients must enroll in a qualified program at a Kansas college or university.
- Students attending Western Governor’s University may receive the Adult Learner Grant
- Recipients must be working towards their first undergraduate degree.
- This does not apply to the Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship, Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship and EMERGE Scholarship.
- Recipients must be a permanent legal resident of the United States with a valid SSN and be able to file the FAFSA.
- Kansas Promise Scholarship requires that you must be a United States citizen.
APPLICATION PROCESS
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at fafsa.gov
- Apply for scholarships by creating an account at sfa.kansasregents.org. (if you need a paper application, contact

- Send in any additional materials using “Upload Documents” button at the top of the webpage (sfa.kansasregents.org)
Please submit all application materials by the priority deadline listed for that scholarship.

Notification of scholarship
- Refer to the confirmation email you received for details on when the scholarship is awarded and how recipients are notified.
If you need to make a change on your scholarship application
- login to your account and edit your scholarship application any time prior to the application deadline.
- For Promise Scholarship, you cannot edit your application, email

Renewal of scholarship
- Login to your State of Kansas Student Aid account (https://sfa.kansasregents.org/) and apply for your scholarship as a renewal
- Renewals are given top priority in awarding each year.
If your scholarship that you have received has an obligation
- work verification paperwork will be emailed to the email address you have listed on your student account
