Effective for Students who Graduate from High School and/or Apply for Admission at the University of Kansas for the 2016 Summer Session or Later

BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ANALYST

The Kansas Board of Regents invites applicants to fill the position of Business Intelligence Analyst. The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, nineteen community colleges, and six technical colleges).

The Business Intelligence Analyst will serve as the developer for content within the business intelligence portal and is responsible for reporting structures and quality assurance duties which include analyzing requirements, creating data definitions, designing, developing, and implementing performance reporting, creating data extracts, evaluating data, creating documentation, working with administrators and technical teams, and other duties as directed by the Associate Director for Reporting.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in addition to demonstrated knowledge of relational database systems and concepts. The successful applicant should also possess experience using reporting languages such as SAS or SQL, and the ability to analyze data, reporting needs, design dashboard pages, and create reporting tables and charts using complex queries. Finally, the successful applicant should have demonstrated project management skills and experience with the ability to prioritize, take initiative, and follow through to completion multiple projects simultaneously.

Salary range is $60,000 to $65,600 and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is authorized to work remotely; however, in-person work at the Topeka office will be required as needed. Improving outcomes for students involved in developmental education is critical to higher education in Kansas. The Board's new strategic plan, Building a Future, aims to ensure that higher education remains affordable and accessible to Kansans, while continuing to help graduates achieve success. Without effective developmental education, many students would not have access to higher education, higher education would be less affordable, and many students would not be able to attain a credential.

As a part of its previous strategic plan, the Board placed a priority on developmental education in 2013, initiating a study that called for “a set of recommendations for redesigning developmental education across the system.” To fulfill this charge, Board staff assembled a Developmental Education Working Group charged by the Board to do the following:

Assess the level and types of remedial education at state community and technical colleges and make recommendations about: (1) state level policy and actions to promote effective remediation; (2) strategies that may be implemented locally, at the discretion of individual institutions; and (3) appropriate state level goals and local performance measures.

The Working Group, composed of fourteen representatives from community colleges, three from technical colleges, and three from state universities, met throughout academic year 2013-2014, dividing into three subgroups dedicated to writing and reading, advising and placement, and mathematics. Their findings were presented to the Board in June 2014.
