Learn about the eligibility requirements for numerous financial aid awards available in the State of Kansas and other general information.

1. PROGRAMS

You must complete and submit the State of Kansas Student Aid Application IF, AND ONLY IF, you want to apply for any of the following programs: Kansas Career Technical Workforce Grant, Kansas Ethnic Minority Scholarship, Kansas Military Service Scholarship, Kansas National Guard Educational Assistance, Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship, Kansas State Scholarship, or the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship.

Note:  Kansas Comprehensive Grant does not require the state application; however, you must file the FAFSA form by the priority date of April 1. 

 2. PROGRAM CRITERIA

Read the descriptions and criteria for each program before you apply. If you do not meet the minimum legislated criteria of a program, you cannot be considered for funding.

 3. DEADLINE

The priority deadline date to process this STATE application is May 1. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) priority deadline is April 1.

 4. VALID APPLICATION

If you do not submit BOTH applications (See #3) to the correct addresses, your file is incomplete and you will not be included in the applicant pool.

 5. COMMON ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Each program listed requires the recipient to:

  • be a Kansas resident
  • enroll at a Kansas college or university
  • not already be awarded an undergraduate degree. See application criteria for the Kansas Teacher Service Scholarship and the Kansas Nursing Service Scholarship, which include an exception for applicants with a degree. 

 6. APPLICATION SUMMARY

A complete application requires:

  • Completing and mailing the paper application form, additional form(s), and any other required materials. (May 1 priority deadline)

  • Submitting additional required materials (i.e. official college transcripts, letter of recommendation, high school information, etc.), if applicable, to the KBOR address above. (May 1 priority deadline)
  • Completing and submitting the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.gov by April 1, the priority deadline.

Please submit all application materials by May 1st as funding is limited.

Important: Check social security numbers. Make sure the correct student social security number is used on both the federal and the state application.

7. USE OF FEDERAL APPLICATION (FAFSA)

Many FAFSA questions are used to determine eligibility for the State of Kansas programs. Complete the FAFSA carefully and accurately. Otherwise, your scholarship application may be rejected. You may estimate adjusted gross income and federal taxes paid when you complete the FAFSA, in order to meet application priority deadlines.

8. MAILING INSTRUCTIONS

Provide a return address on your envelope. Your only proof of non-delivery will be your returned envelope. Use enough postage so your application can be delivered. Use first-class mail, regular delivery only.
