(TOPEKA) – The Kansas Board of Regents has elected a new Chair and Vice Chair. The nine-member Board elected Tim Emert of Independence as the new Chair and Fred Logan of Leawood as the new Vice Chair.

He earned his Associate Degree from Independence Community College. He went on to earn a B.S. in Journalism and Juris Doctor from the University of Kansas.

“I am honored to serve as the Chair of the Board of Regents,” said Emert. “Public higher education is a critical element in the future success of our citizens and our state. The Board is committed to advancing educational opportunities that meet the needs of our citizens and the Kansas economy. I look forward to collaborating with students, faculty, institutional leaders, and policy-makers in the coming year.”

Governor Sam Brownback appointed Logan to the Board of Regents in 2011. He serves as a member of the Academic Affairs and Governance Committees and as the Board’s representative on the Transfer and Articulation Advisory Council.

He is an attorney and partner of Logan Logan & Watson, L.C. in Prairie Village. He earned his B.A. and Juris Doctor from Indiana University.

“Achieving a higher education ensures our citizens have opportunities to succeed in the 21st century,” said Logan. “The education provided by our institutions fuels income growth for Kansas families and advances innovations that improve our world. I look forward to working to advance public higher education with this talented group of Regents, students, faculty and institutional leaders.”

The Chair and Vice Chair will serve one-year terms beginning in July of 2012. Portraits of Regents Emert and Logan can be downloaded from the Board website at http://www.kansasregents.org/the_board_of_regents.
