Zoe Newton was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by Governor Sam Brownback in 2014. She is presently serving as chair of the Board of Regents and is a practicing attorney. She serves on behalf of the Board as a Commissioner of the Education Commission of the States, an interstate compact that works to help bridge the gap between good ideas and effective education policy.
Zoe was born in Kingston, Jamaica and came to the United States shortly after graduating from high school. She worked her way through university and began practicing law in 2000. From 2009 to 2013, Zoe served as Vice President & General Counsel for The Hartman Companies in Wichita, Kansas.
Zoe received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Binghamton in 1995, and a law degree from Cornell in 2000. She and her husband, Gale, have four children.
