Dave Murfin was appointed to the Kansas Board of Regents by Governor Sam Brownback in 2015. He is the CEO of Murfin, Inc. whose interests include Murfin Drilling Company, Inc. and Murphy Tractor and Equipment Company, one of the largest John Deere construction dealerships in North America.
Murfin grew up in Wichita, a graduate of Wichita East High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and business administration from the University of Kansas, and currently serves as a member of the University of Kansas School of Business Board of Advisors and on the University of Kansas Endowment Board of Trustees. Murfin is known for his civic engagement, serving on several boards including the Greater Wichita Economic Development Coalition, The Kansas Chamber, and the National Petroleum Council. He is a former president of Kansas Independent Oil & Gas Association and past chairman of the National Stripper Well Association. In 2016, Murfin was awarded The Jim Edwards Leadership Kansas Alumnus of the Year Award.
He and his wife, Janet, have three children and five grandchildren. In his free time, he enjoys flying and family.
