Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed Juana "Janie" Perkins to the Board of Regents in 2005. The current Mayor of Garden City, she is also a Supplemental Programs Coordinator and Elementary Teacher with USD 457.

She was elected to the City Commission of Garden City in 2001 and elected Mayor in April 2005.

Perkins is actively involved with the 25th Judicial District Youth Services, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Salvation Army, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Multicultural Task Force, and she graduated from Leadership Kansas in 2002.

She earned a B.S. in Education and a M.S. in Education from Newman University. Perkins and her husband, Harold, a family physician, have five children. Her hobbies include reading and spending time with family and friends.
