Former Governor Kathleen Sebelius appointed Juana "Janie" Perkins to the Kansas Board of Regents in 2005. She currently serves as a member of the Board’s Academic Affairs Committee. She has previously served as a member of the Fiscal Affairs and Audit Committee and as a member of the CEO Assessment Committee. She is a Supplemental Programs Coordinator and Elementary Teacher with USD 457.

She was elected to the City Commission of Garden City in 2001 and elected Mayor in April 2005.

Perkins is actively involved with the 25 th Judicial District Youth Services, the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Salvation Army, the Garden City Chamber of Commerce Multicultural Task Force, and she graduated from Leadership Kansas in 2002.

She earned a B.S. in Education and a M.S. in Education from Newman University. Perkins and her husband, Harold, a family physician, have five children. Her hobbies include reading and spending time with family and friends.
